    HUGE Thank you!

    Hello Durbin Dolphins,

I cannot believe our season is over. Despite all the crazy things going on in the world, the board and coaches are extremely happy that we could get the kids in the pool for several weeks this summer. I wish we could have had a huge swim banquet, like ‘normal’, so I could recognize many amazing people. For now, please allow me to thank the wonderful people below for their help and support.

This season would have been impossible without the help and support of each board member. The Durbin Crossing Board of directors are all volunteers who meet 9 months out of the year to help prepare for the swim season. They each play a vital role in making this machine work. Each of them went above and beyond to ensure this short season was a success.

    • Elissa Karl: Vice President
    • Steven Moore: outgoing Treasurer- Steve and his family are moving to Ohio this summer and will be greatly missed. Good luck to the Moore Family on your new adventures.
    • Meg Willerer: in coming Treasurer
    • Anne Pokelwaldt: Secretary & Jr. Coach Liaison
    • Leah Cygan: Concessions
    • Kerianne Acra: Parent Liaison
    • Michelle Fell: Volunteer Coordinator
    • Kristin Vosteen: Sponsorships

We would be nothing without our coaches. A HUGE thank you to Coach Ed and Coach Jessica. They both made sure the swimmers had fun while ensuring groups were smaller and swimmers stayed separated for added safety. This is not an easy task with young, excited swimmers. Each of our coaches has a unique ability to teach, encourage, and support our swimmers while at the pool. We are so blessed to have both Coach Ed and Coach Jessica lead this team.

We also need to thank our 11 amazing Jr. Coaches. This year had added challenges for these young volunteers and each one rose to the challenge. Thank you to Jacob Bauer, Cameron Haddock, Corbin Harris, Macey Karl, Nathaniel Nelson, Brooklyn Potter, Kendall Reckamp, Shaun Slycord, Nathan Spees, Anisa Travancic, and Adam Williby. Many of these amazing swimmers have been with us since the beginning of Durbin Dolphins. A special kudos to our 2020 high school Seniors; Jacob, Corbin, Nathaniel, and Adam. We will miss each of you, but we know you are moving on to some amazing new experiences. Good luck to each of you!

Two of our Senior swimmers had the honor of being chosen as St. Johns Summer Swim League Scholarship recipients. The St. John’s Summer Swim League Scholarship Program has been established to benefit swimmers who have participated in the league for multiple years. The purpose of the program is to identify and recognize talented high school graduates and to provide aid toward their advanced education. We are so proud of Adam Williby and Jacob Baurer who were chosen for these scholarship awards! Adam has been a swimmer with the league for 11 years. He will be heading to Clemson University this fall to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jacob has been a part of the league for 8 years. He will be heading to Florida State University in the fall to purse a degree in Chemistry and eventually, Medical School.

Thank you to our team sponsors! With your support, we were able to buy much needed supplies to allow this season to move forward. Many of these sponsors are small businesses that help us each year, and we also play a special role in supporting them, especially this year.

Finally, we need to thank the parents and swimmers! Thank you for showing up and trusting us. Getting this season up and running was a huge task. Many days we thought of giving up due to setbacks, frustrations, and fear. Despite all that, seeing those smiling faces on day 1 reminded us why we work so hard for all of you. Thank you to the returning families that gave this short season a shot even when you knew it would be so different. Thank you to the new families that tried summer swim with us for the first time, despite a pandemic going on. We really hope to see you all again next summer!

    Sincerely,

    Kim Smith
